The olive trees and oil … a bit of history
In 1550 Silvan Cattaneo described Limone by saying: “We passed by a beautiful place, its particular semi-circular form built in a corner between the mountains and the lake, which is called Limone; because of its position, one may arrive only by water or along narrow and difficult mountain roads. It is surrounded by luxuriant and fertile olive groves, the most succulent and fruitful in the area. The olive trees bear constantly, the olives are always soft, green and plenty, due to the natural irrigation that they receive and, even being so small a place, nature has been infinitely faithful in granting the following privileges: That the place be rich in oil, that for the inhabitants their harvest be three times more fruitful than in any other area and that their oil be the best and most tasteful.».
